Gwyneth's in love, Sheryl's still fighting and Nicole gets sacked

Carolynmur_grani_10465267_600Greystone Mansion was the site of a grisly murder/suicide back in 1929.

But yesterday the historic house was haunted only by the frightening new fashion trend - A-line, bubble and sack dresses - at a chic gathering of Hollywood ladies including Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, Estee Lauder model/actress Carolyn Murphy, Sheryl Crow, Nicole Richie, Monet Mazur, Gabrielle Reese, Bridget Wilson-Sampras (Pete’s wife), Laura Dern and Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon.

“There’s a ghost here,” whispered Murphy, who had once done a fashion shoot in the enormous mansion, as she posed for photos in a black bell-shaped Bottega Veneta dress. Why ring the bell? “I like this dress because it has huge pockets.”

Pockets and breathing room must be why so many of the gals at Aerin Lauder's private luncheon for Paltrow. turned up in tent and bubble dresses. Even Richie, who certainly doesn’t have to worry about looking fat in anything, wore a baggy turquoise sack dress. Talk about gilding the skinny lily.Nicolerich_grani_10464678_600

Paltrow bucked the For Whom the Bell Tolls trend with a silver satin Prada dress. She was last to arrive after a personal app at Saks Fifth Avenue (where she’d worn beige Alexander McQueen) to meet fans buying her limited edition Pleasures fragrance collection. Proceeds went to Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which has raised $140 million since ’93.

Most of the luncheon chit-chat on the patio overlooking Beverly Hills was – duh - about babies. Bridget's got two boys, Gaby's got a daughter, 2, and an 11-year-old. Laura's got a boy, 5, and a girl, almost 2. And it was a veritable coo-fest when Gwyneth brought out her adorable (just over five months) bundle of boy, Moses, to squeals from the lunch bunch, including Crow’s mom, aunt and cousin.

“He looks like a Raphael painting,” said Crow’s mom. And she was right. At a glance, Paltrow, gazing lovingly at the wavy-haired cherub in her arms, looked a modern day "Madonna of the Chair." Crow, Dern and Reese took turns cuddling little Moses but he gave the most smiles to a familiar face, Paltrow’s power-publicist, Steven Huvane. Smart kid.

Gwynethpal_grani_10465521_600_1Sorry, i can't show you pixs of Paltrow's latest pride and joy.  Although she smiled for photos with all the luncheon guests, she was very strict about her no-baby-photos rule.

Hopefully not as strict as Tom Cruise, thank God, who held little Suri hostage for that Vanity Fair cover.

When not oogling Moses, Crow talked about the ongoing fight for a cure.

“Every day women walk up to me and introduce themselves to me. They’re usually young women, two and three-time survivors of breast cancer."

These women have a harder time because their kind of cancer grows faster and is more difficult to treat. "What we used to advise about mammograms and family history doesn’t apply to these young women,” says Crow.

Although she’d done fund-raising for cancer for three years, Crow says it wasn’t until her diagnosis that she felt the real impact of the disease.

But the diagnosis is something she's now grateful for.Sherylcrow_grani_10464401_600_1

“It was a bit of a show-stopper,” she admitted. “But it’s those catastrophic moments in life, whether you’ve lost your house to Katrina or a loved one to throat cancer (Paltrow’s dad Bruce died of the disease in 2002), these are epiphanic moments that really transform you, where you meet and re-define yourself. Those moments decide the rest of your life.”

But if Paltrow, Reese and Durn have anything to do with it, Sheryl won’t be living the rest of her life single.

“We’ve all got lists of guys but we’re only letting the best ones meet her,” said Reese. The stunning Amazon babe – wearing a hot pink top and white slacks – mock-groused about no one else wearing the nauseating hue.

“Everyone’s in black! I thought everyone would be wearing pink for breast cancer. But no, the butchest girl here and I’m the only one in pink.”

Hey, coulda been worse. Could have been a pink bubble dress.

Penelope sees Suri! Bet Nic's PO-ed

Tomcruisep_cohen_495746_600Penelope Cruz - Tom Cruise’s ex-girlfriend and Katie Holmes' stunt double - has followed Scientologist Leah Remini and Hubbard fan Jada Pinkett Smith by blabbing to People about having seen Cruise's mythical daughter Suri.

Cruz is not, I repeat, not a Scientologist. That she refused to join the church was rumored to be one reason behind the couple's split. Of course, there were also nasty rumors that the Spanish actress received a career boost and financial compensation for doing three years of Tom time.

Okay, does anyone else find it odd that a short-lived ex-girlfriend would be given the famous infant look/see? What about Cruise's ex-wife and mother of his adopted children, Nicole Kidman? What is she, chopped liver?

And where exactly did Penelope spot Suri, who has not been seen in public since her birth on April 18? At Tom's California mansion or his huge Colorado pad?

Penelope gave no details to press peeps at the London premiere of her new film, “Volver.” And to be honest, stripped of her Cruise connection, few reporters would have bothered talking to her at all.

She was also asked about her split from Matthew McConaughey but she got all teary and refused to discuss it. Oh, please, Chiquita. You are way better off without them, both the creepy control freak and the boozing bongo-banging party animal.

Anyway, there are rumblings that People may soon publish photos that will prove the existence of Baby Suri. She may not get as much (a reported $4 million) as Baby Shiloh did. But there are modes of payment other than mere moola. Like, fer instance, lots of favorable stories/good publicity in People, something the couch-jumping Cruise could certainly use to boost his image after "MI3"'s dismal box office.

Last week it was reported that Cruise's longstanding 13-year deal with Paramount Studios has been allowed to, well, lapse, to put it politely. The studio, which paid close to $20 million a year as part of the agreement to get first shot at Cruise's film projects, has not renewed the sweet deal.

So smile pretty, Suri. C'mon, smile for Daddy!

Suspicions over Scientologist Suri Sightings

Jadapinket_caulf_9502261_600

Even with all the Emmy awards buzz, Hollywood insiders are still asking, "Where's little Suri?"

There are still no photos, not even a cartoon likeness, of the TomKat spawn.

And TMZ has reported some strange things about Suri Cruise’s birth certificate. Like the late filing date (8 days after her April 18 birth) and the unusual signatures (an illegible signature of a “friend”) and the missing parental signatures. Hmmmm.

Now suddenly, we have, not one, but two breathless Suri reports from Leah Remini and Jada Pinkett Smith, both babbling about the baby to People magazine.

Call me suspicious, but does anyone else think it's odd that both of these gals are also Scientologists?

First, church member Remini raves about seeing the MIA baby to People. She says she even got to pick up the TomKitten. Gosh, she must be one of the chosen "clear" ones.

Tomcruisea_brech_9485517_600Now Pinkett Smith, Cruise’s “Collateral” co-star and new fan of Hubbard's teachings, is also spouting off to People about having seen the missing Scientology link.

Who will be next to Suri spot? Scrolling down the church’s role call list, here are some distinct possibilities: John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Jenna Elfman, Jason Lee, Isaac Hayes, Kirstie Alley and/or Lisa Marie Presley.

But here's someone it probably won't be: Steven Spielberg, who is most definitely not a Scientologist.

Plus I hear he's still pretty PO-ed at Tom for having sicced the Scientologists dogs on a friend of his, a doctor who has had success treating kids with Ritalin.

But be warned, Camp Cruise. People magazine - and people in general - aren't as dumb as they look.

And if the next FOTC (Friend of Tom Cruise) to report seeing Suri just happens to be another Xenu Freak, folks are gonna get suspicious.

Make that more suspicious.

But the director, reportedly still miffed about Cruise siccing Scientology picketers on a doctor pal, keeps the actor at arm's length.
