Dueling dresses: Kate or Thandie?

KateTandy

It was a Dueling Dress Moment between Thandie Newton and Kate Bosworth at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Bosworth showed off the hot pink sleeveless sheath first -- on Sept. 9 -- at the premiere of "The Girl in the Park." Tandy got it for the next night at the "Run, Fat Boy, Run" screening Sept. 10. Of course, the obvious next question is, who fired her stylist for this major fashion oops?

Who scored (or snored)? You decide.

Hollywood's fashion junkies hit the Globes

There’s a new drug in Hollywood. And some of the hottest young actresses are into it.

Nicole Richie’s been seen with it at A-list parties and night clubs. Mischa Barton, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley, Mandy Moore, Heidi Klum and Joy Bryant may even bring it to the Golden Globe Awards.Mischa_ysl

It’s Yves St. Laurent designer clothing. YSL for short. And super-stylist Rachel Zoe is solely responsible for the current YSL wave sweeping Hollywood. She’s been dressing all of the above actresses in slinky, sexy vintage and modern YSL for the past two years.

But she isn’t just a pusher. She’s also a user.

“It’s really my addiction,” she admitted at the recent bash for M.A.C Beauty Icon and fellow YSL addict Catherine Deneuve at the Chateau Marmont. It’s said that if there are just two addicts in a room, it still qualifies as an twelve step recovery meeting. Perhaps Zoe and Deneuve should have opened the penthouse party with a Style Serenity Prayer.

“I can't stop myself. I'm like a junkie. If there was a YSL rehab, my husband would have had me admitted years ago,” said Zoe, wearing a YSL blouse and slacks with a sculpted black Christian LaCroix jacket that she found in Paris. ”But I tell him that it’s better than doing drugs.”

Zoe will be dressing Knightley, Beckinsale, Moore, Barton and Klum for the Golden Globes and admits that she's little fried from all the fashion frenzy.

“It’s a love/hate relationship,” she said of the awards season with back-to-back galas and parties. “It’s manic and crazy but it’s what I do and what I love. It’s like dressing Cinderella for the ball. And all  the girls are so beautiful. I’m really lucky to get to work with that much beauty.”

So what will they be wearing Monday night? Silly question. The answer would spoil the red carpet surprise. But if you're the betting kind, put some serious money on vintage YSL.

“All the girls have very distinct styles. Some of them will look feminine and classic and some will be more edgy,” whispered Zoe. “But call me Monday after 3:30 and I’ll give you all the details.”

Kristanna Loken's bloody mess

Every actress worth her box office salt has a super heroine alter-ego these days. Charlize Theron has her "Aeon Flux" assassin. Angelina Jolie does Lara Croft in the "Tomb Raider" series. Kate Beckinsale layers on the latex as Selene from “Underworld.” Even Jennifer Garner has found her inner warrior in "Elektra."

Now Kristanna Loken has Rayne.

Kristanna Loken

Loken — last seen in “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” as the totally nude T-X who gave Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger a run for his ball bearings — hit the red carpet at Graumann's Chinese Theatre last night wearing a white chiffon gown for the premiere of “BloodRayne.”

Loken's new fantasy film is based on a video game, always a good sign, about the daughter of the world's most powerful vampire, who seeks revenge on dad for having the bad manners to kill her human mommy. The catch is that Rayne is also a vamp, but she turns her perky nose up at human blood and only feeds on other vampires.

“The film was shot in Romania,” explained the statuesque blonde. “It's a post-Communist country and it's like a teenager, still figuring what it wants to be when it grows up. But the castles are absolutely amazing. And I think shooting there really helped the look and feel of the film.”

Not enough. Some in the audience wondered how on earth the filmmakers snagged Oscar-winning British actor Ben Kingsley for the role of, yes, you guessed correctly, Daddy Vampire. Did he just have a free day? And whose idea was the eyeliner, lipstick and that bad plastic hairpiece?

The film was produced and directed by Uwe Boll and distributed by Romar Entertainment. Boll, taking the stage before the film began, ranted about all the greedy thieves in Hollywood, always a great way to endear yourself to the L.A. film industry. He dragged his stars — including Loken, Michael Madsen, Billy Zane and Udo Kier — onstage but didn't let them speak because, “I hate it when actors talk."

He then made a fevered pitch for Romar as the only truly independent film studio that makes and distributes their own films very cheaply, um, inexpensively.

That much was obvious from the evening's cost-cutting measures such as:

Kate Beckinsale opens up for Playboy

Katebeckinsale

Kate Beckinsale looked pretty as a picture at the horrifyingly early (5 a.m.) Golden Globe nomination announcements today, wearing a black silk halter tuxedo dress by Monique Lhullier.

But the brunette actress, who stars in yet another gothic vampire flick, "Underworld: Evolution," really opens her dark crypt in an interview with Playboy, now on stands.

On checking into hotels using funny pseudonyms: "My husband put his foot down on my using Sigourney Beaver. He doesn't like it when they call to ask him about something and they say, 'Hello, Mr. Beaver.' He always gets caught being the mister to whatever name I use."
