This week's annual Metropolitan Museum Costume Gala - honoring the legendary designer Poiret - felt a bit like a warm-up for the 2008 Oscars. Glam A-list actresses - Cate Blanchett, Scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Connelly, Renee Zellweger and Naomi Watts walked the New York red carpet in totally over-the-top gowns. And, of course, no Oscar portent event would be complete with last year's official Oscar fashion expert Andre Leon Talley, seen here recycling what looks like his high school graduation gown. Word to the wise for next year's nominees: Remember Jennifer Hudson's Star Trek jacket. Never trust a stylist who wears a pup tent in public.
