Did Nicole Richie's uterus make her do Vicodin?

Nicoleric_john_13601642_600

Was anyone else impressed by Nicole Richie's skillful "performance" on "Good Morning America" yesterday?

My favorite part was when Diane Sawyer leaned in for the kill and probed deeper, asking Nicole why she was taking Vicodin. And a straight-faced Richie, without missing a beat or even batting a fake eyelash, responded, "I have really bad menstrual cramps."

I almost fell on the floor. My stomach still hurts from laughing. Here's the kicker: Hard-hitting journalist that she is, Diane just let Nicole skate with that lame-o excuse. She didn't even bother to follow up with the obvious next question: Why on earth was Nicole taking Vicodin when it's not a recommended or prescribed medicine for menstrual pain?

Not to get clinical, but here goes: Menstrual pain -- usually called cramps -- is caused by intense uterine contractions that can be controlled and relieved by taking NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and/or the limited use of birth control pills to lessen the amount of menstrual tissue formed each month.

According to the Women's Health Resource, "Vicodin and other narcotic pain medicines are not very effective at all for menstrual cramps." What Vicodin is effective at is addiction. What is the recommended treatment? Click here. Then check out these patients' responses.

So much for Nicole taking responsibility for her actions. And now she's blaming her drug use on her darn uterus! You gotta love it.

So let's review. Those weren't Lindsay Lohan's drugs in her pocket. And Nicole's uterus made her do Vicodin.

Gertie -- Nicole was arrested in Dec and is only four months along so it is possible she had menstral cramps but how does she explain the marijuana.

I didn't see the interview but I know people who have been prescribed vicodin for menstral cramps so I'm not surprised by the answer.

I have to say I had endomitriosis and it cause super painful cramps and yes I was perscribed Vicodin and yes it worked!

And why Vicodin, when there are safer non prescription pain relievers on the market. Am really surprised she wasn't questioned further at her TV interview.

I thought Nicole was pregnant? No menstrual cramps then--too bad Diane didn't point that out.

oh, nicole- you are proper. i love how she is "one-upping" paris by wanting to go to the county jail and handling this all without a visible mental break down.
