Teen Choice stars learn the meaning of giving (and getting)

"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens almost had to be dragged out of the Celebrity Retreat on Sunday night, mere minutes before the Teen Choice award show went live.

Was she nervous about getting an award? Being onstage with her boyfriend Zach Efron? Nyah. She was really busy shopping and getting well-gifted in the Tiger Electronics-sponsored swag suite.

Wearing a sweet bohemian-chic gown and rocking her new extensions, Vanessa was totally psyched about getting a new pink CHI hair flat iron. She already had the CHI iron in black and blue. And she loved seeing her face on the Mattel Games’ High School Musical edition Uno cards, saying: “You know you’ve made it big when you’re an Uno card!” But she was squealed with delight when she overheard her song played on a nearby foot-tapping iDog: "'That's me! That's me!"

Vanessa wasn't the only ecstatic celebrity looter.

Actressmi_kevin_14686541_max_3"Hannah Montana" star Miley Cirus, wearing a colorful sequined dress by Emilio Covin, got herself an interactive pet Mio Pup and a pair of Warmbat Australia sheepskin boots. And she loved seeing her face on  the Hannah Montana DVD game. Yet another "That's me!" moment.

Avril Lavigne jammed with Guitar Hero, which plays classic '80s songs such as "I Want Candy" and "We Got the Beat." She'd already hit the swag suite Saturday and snagged a pair of Guess Miki shoes, a dark gray peep-toe Mary Jane stiletto pump.

Sophia Bush grabbed a pair of Mikis too. The night's big winner, looking hot in a strapless Herve Leger bandage-tight minidress, also picked up a pair of Guess Carrie shoes, a classic stiletto pump in leopard print. "I'm obsessed with all things leopard," Bush admitted.

Singerjus_kevin_14688430_maxEmmy Rossum, who told me the songs on her new album are "personal, sexy and honest," was psyched about getting a new Tamagotchi Connection virtual pet. “I had a Tamagotchi," she confessed. "But mine die all the time. Now I can take this one on vacation!"

Hilary Duff was too busy co-hosting the show Sunday night to stop in. But I heard she adopted a Mio Pup and fell for a Stuart Weitzman brown suede fringe bag on Saturday.

But it wasn't all freebie frenzy. The teen stars also selected and donated Tamagotchi toys that will be wrapped by Hallmark and given to sick children by City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses.

All the swaggers -- even Justin Guarini -- also signed a Hello Kitty guitar that's now being auctioned off at www.charityfolks.com. The former "American Idol" contestant -- inexplicably sporting a headband, the kind worn to hold your hair back when washing your tweenage face with zit-zapping cream -- asked to be let into the Celeb Retreat to get the VIP swag treatment he was accustomed to getting when he was almost an "Idol" winner. His new gig? Interviewing the new generation of teen idols for TV Guide network. Ouch. That's gotta sting.

Face it, dude. To these kids, you're way old. Besides, you've had your 15 minutes. Move over. There's fresh meat on the grill.

So you were standing 4 feet from him. Did you happen to talk to him, or notice what a truly nice guy he is? Guess not.

So yeah, snark away. Whatever floats your bitter boat, you know? Enjoy!

Still love that pic :).

I don't understand the venom in this article that was directed towards Justin. What is one supposed to do when your cliched 'fifteen minutes' are up and this business had tossed you aside like roadside litter? Drugs? Suicide? Or maybe keep your head up and forge ahead with a new career. I would think Justin would be used as an example of how to behave when the inevitable happens and one is no longer 'fresh meat'.

As for swag, to me it's no different than asking for a first class upgrade on a plane flight. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. From the picture he had the last laugh - go, Justin!

Last time I checked, the description teen idol (note the lower case i!) would be a correct way to describe the TCA nominees and winners who were walking the carpet. They'd all been nominated by their multitudes of fans. Can't have fans without being dubbed an idol of worship. Kinda funny how that works.

I stood about four feet from Justin, so no, I don't have my shows mixed up. And oh yeah, he did interview Jordin Sparks who is an Idol winner. (note the uppercase L)

I'm sure Justin is a wonderful person and a tremendous talent. But Travolta or Fergie didn't ask to be allowed into the celebrity suite so they could get a boatload of swag, which Justin did, even though his name wasnt on the official Celebrity Suites talent list.

Just thought it was worth mentioning...

That's why the

Last time I checked, the Teen Choice Awards was not an Idol event, so why would Justin be interviewing Idols there? lol, I think you got your shows mixed up! Justin was at the TCA's as a representative of the TV Guide Network, as a correspondent -- yes, he was paid to be there! Can't beat that. And I believe he interviewed John Travolta (um, isn't he 90? lol), and Fergie (in her 30s for sure), and plenty of others who are older than he is! I don't see any of them "moving over" for "fresh meat" just yet!

Anyway, thanks for extensive Justin mention in your blog AND for the great JUSTIN pic! He's looking HOT these days! LOVE the air. He actually pulls it off quite well. It just might start another hair trend! lol

I don't understand the snark on Justin. He is very talented and a great guy. We need more entertainers like Justin.

If you knew anything about Justin Guarini, you'd know he loves interacting with people (and playing video games) and is having a ball with his TV Guide gig in between recording an album. Just because you'd be bitter, don't assume others are too, dude.

As for the headband, it's quirky but apparently something he picked up in a recent song-writing trip to England. I guess those wimpy footballers didn't know about your teenage acne woes.
