Star shopping on Melrose Place

Elizabeth_john_13674772_600

Melrose Place, the preferred shopping street of Lindsay Lohan, Charlize Theron, Minnie Driver, Rose McGowan, Kate Hudson and Reese Witherspoon, is having a blow-out block party.

Seventeen of the chic street’s designer boutiques – including Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Marni, Oscar de la Renta, Me&Ro and the cutting edge John Frieda Hair Salon - are donating 10% of sales to the Museum of Contemporary Art next week. Others include Bird, Lambertson Truex, Colette, Retrospecs, Leggiadro, Dolce Vita, Mulberry and Paul Smith, located a few stiletto steps away on Melrose Avenue.

The shopping spree kicks off on May 22 at 6:30 with a huge bash on the closed-off street. Yes, there is valet parking. Republic’s private dining room will be open with a DJ spinning. Appetizers from Dolce Ristorante and sweets by Sweet Lady Jane will be offered at the Melrose Ave end the street.

Each store has provided a unique gift or certificate for the silent auction. Now’s your chance to get a deal on a wildly expensive Marc Jacobs bag and impress all your friends. Did I mention that the first 400 shoppers that night get an amazing swag bag? Score! Here’s the best part: Admission is free for anyone and everyone.

The charity doesn’t end that night. Just mention MOCA from May 22-May 25 when you present plastic to a participating shop on Melrose Place. Then you can feel both chic and smug about helping MOCA’s nationally-recognized Art Start Programs that introduces culturally significant artists, works and themes to public schools. If you feel like putting your name on the list for the big opening night, call Michelle Bernardin at 213-633-5318. Or RSVP to projectcouncil@moca.org. See you there!
