Karl Lagerfeld tells Paris: Get a driver!
Herr Karl Lagerfeld has some words of advice for young stars like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan, who keep getting in trouble for drinking/drugging while driving, driving on expired licenses and bashing into other cars.
On Paris, Karl told WWD: "If you ask me, she should have a driver," he said. "She doesn't
have the excuse of being a poor girl. If you are a party person, and
you like to have fun and drink a little, you better take a driver. She
just has to make sure the driver doesn't drink, but that's another
problem. If he has to go to jail, she can take another one." To read the whole interview, click here.
He has a good point. Although, one could argue that didn't help Princess Diana much.
Karl was camped out at his LA favorite spot, the Beverly Hills Hotel, on Friday. The parking lot was lousy with a double C logoed fleet of black town cars and the hotel was littered with his New York/Paris black-clad contingent of stylists, publicists and assistants. Last night Karl's crew took over Hanger 8 at the Santa Monica Airport to present his new 2007 Cruise Collection. For more about the clothes and the guests, keep reading...
The interior of Hanger 8 was decorated with pale blue n' white naugahyde sofas, plastic tables, and flight information
screens on the walls, courtesy of party kings - Rabin and Rodgers - all to resemble a sleek modern
Space Age/Retro '70s airport gate. Think "Meet the Jetsons" meets "2001." Chanel gets the Coolest Goody Bag Award for their blue/white canvas bags monogrammed with star's names that also served as place marks on the sofas.
Simply everyone was there, dahling. Everyone who
wasn't at Cannes, that is. Mingling about in their new Chanel outfits: Demi Moore, a smiling and animated (!) Victoria Beckham, Dita Von Teese, the Olsen
twins, Lindsay Lohan (wearing Chanel driving gloves), a pregnant Milla
Jovovich and her director fiance, Emmy Rossum, Camilla
Belle, Angie Harmon, Ali Larter, Devon Aoki, Eva Mendes, Kristin Davis,
Jessica Alba, Sarah Michelle Geller, Monet Mazur, Emma Roberts, and
scads of LA socialites, industry women, faithful Chanel fans and
international fashion press. Even a reporter from French "Vogue" was
there!
After the cocktails and nibbles, the hanger doors slowly opened as a roaring private jet taxied up and deposited a cargo-load of models, who raced through the hanger wearing Karl's sexy, kicky cruise retro-modern designs and carrying cool totes, all of which looked absolutely perfect for a young jet-setter's life.
Strangely, Karl's new Cruise Collection cover girl Claudia Schiffer sat out the show. But walking a runway was never her strong suit.
Frankly, I think she looked quite relieved not to be up there when she saw the young models skillfully manuevering two tricky sections of People Mover conveyor belts embedded in the wood floor.

(a reader sez MK "confirms" her fur is faux. I dunno. I was within stroking distance. It may be faux mink. But it looked more like real rat.)
