Who's Sharon's hot new LA designer?
You gotta hand it to Sharon Stone.
Stone, who appears in Emilio Estevez's Golden Globe nominated film, "Bobby," is both indefatigably fashion-conscious and awards season savvy.
That means she's out and about and looking great.
On Monday, Dec. 11, she attended the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, wearing a slinky black gown by an L.A. designer named David Meister.
Back in L.A. last night, she was at Sylvester Stallone's world premiere of "Rocky Balboa" in a short black Anna Molinari cocktail dress, a Fendi Jacket and Dior boots. Also that night she showed up in a Dolce Gabbana beige boatneck frock and Dior heels at Penelope Cruz and the designers' auction at the Chateau Marmont to benefit the Art of Elysium.
Seems Penny was hawking some of her old - excuse me.. "previously worn" - Dolce and Gabbana gowns, which will be on display for a few days at the Beverly Hills boutique.
Why go to an auction of old clothes, you wonder? Because the event was covered exclusively by Vanity Fair and photos will be featured in an upcoming issue of the magazine, that's why. Think, people, think.
Word to the fashion-wise: Keep an eye out for Meister this awards season. He's dressed La Stone for a few occasions and just put Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Hudson in a gown worthy ogling for the Los Angeles premiere of “Dreamgirls.”
Meister recently dressed another nominee: "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera,
whose show was just nominated in the Globes Best Comedy category. To
top it off, he even designed Catherine Bell’s dress for Tom Cruise and
Katie Holmes wedding rehearsal. Other celebs include Mary Elizabeth Winstead (also in "Bobby"), Geena Davis for the 06 Emmys, and Melinda Clarke for the Fox Upfront party.
What's the appeal? For one, he's talented. Two, he's local.
“The fact that he’s here in Los Angeles is very helpful for busy actresses who don’t have time to fly to Paris to get fitted for a gown,” says Carla Blizzard of Film Fashion. “He will happily customize any of his designs for them."
And for a busy gal like Sharon, I can see why designer proximity might be the key to contentment.
Will he design anything for Stone, Hudson or Ferrera for the Globes?
Admitedly, it's hard for a local designer to beat out the Euro Fash forces like Armani, Chanel, Ungaro, Valentino, and all the other big name designers with deep pockets.
But you never know.
