No Housewives? No Emmy style sizzle
What? No “Desperate Housewives”?
The world officially came to an end this morning when not one of the top gals from the acclaimed ABC show was nominated for an Emmy. Unless you count Alfre Woodard, who got a best supporting nod.
Now I know what you’re secretly thinking. You’re crying on the outside, but inside you're saying, “Thank God!”
You are not alone. Most people have gotten pretty tired of reading stories about what the "Desperate" actresses might - or might not - wear to such-and-such awards show. Trust me. Even people who had to write the stories feel that way.
But the fact is that without those fashion-conscious, ultra-competitive “Desperate” gals, there’s just not a lot of style sizzle to the 2005 Emmys.
Sure, we have the striking “West Wing"-er Allison Janney and the always lovely “Malcolm in the Middle” star Jane Kaczmarek and Sandra Oh, who's worn some good gowns.
But there’s also “Commander in Chief” Geena Davis. I don’t know about you but I’m still reeling from that blue satin long-sleeved Oscar gown she designed with costumer Bill Hargate for the 61st Academy Awards. Some dresses just never fade from memory.
But wait, there’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus for “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (a show I must have missed somehow), “Will and Grace” Debra Messing (yes, she’s baaack), Lisa Kudrow (does anyone remember “The Comeback”?) and Stockard Channing (okay, who watched “Out of Practice?” C’mon, raise your hand). Anyway, the point is this isn’t exactly a flock of fashion-forward females.
Yeah, that new voting method that was supposed to create a better, more diverse slate of nominees really worked great.
C’mon, people. Would it have been so hard to nominate a "Grey’s Anatomy” hottie? How about a “Gilmore Girl”? Or sexy Evangeline Lilly from “Lost”? Never thought I’d say this but I’m actually praying Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie show up so there’s some silly hot new fashion trend to write about.
But all hope is not lost. There are some really great guys on the Emmy fashion block. In the best actor in a drama category, we’ve got Peter Krause (“Six Feet Under”), Denis Leary (“Rescue Me”) and Keifer Sutherland (“24”) - and even Charlie Sheen (“Two and a Half Men”) in the comedy lineup, which seriously ups the hot hunk factor. This is all very promising.
But making slightly less bold fashion headlines, Steve Carell (The Office”), Kevin James (“The King of Queens”), Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”) and Larry David (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) are nominated in the best actor in a comedy category. Oh dear.
Never thought I’d say it but I’m really gonna miss Nicollette, Teri, Eva, Marcia and Felicity. Not to mention "Sopranos" star Edie Falco. Please, please, please would you ladies still come to the Emmys, even though you’re not nominated? Don’t make me beg.
But enough grousing. I gotta go and write an exciting Emmy 2006 fashion preview story. Only six more weeks to go…

Let's be honest here, the show Desperate Housewives has gotten boring, bland, and not even the pretty women in the show can make a difference. The campy story line has gotten old.
