You can refinance the national debt with the equivalent of a adjustable rate mortgage, cut military spending in half, ignore corporate fraud at Enron, Kmart, World Com....ETC and it looks good for your administration but makes things worse in the future.

I wish Clooney, Sheen, et. al. WOULD write a blog, get a real national discussion going on where this country's headed unless people decide to drop what they're doing, think a bit, and speak OUT.

We've got a twice-over failed oil exec working with Hallicheney and all their cash-blinded hangers-on flying blind down the road to nowhere, the debt keeps piling up, not a peep about citizen's initiatives, and eveyrone waiting for 'the government' to fix things...Hollywood's good at science-fiction, let's see em do one on science FACT.

The way I see it, america's got 2 choices from where we are now: Continue with the oil dependency model, and let Exxon etc. keep running the country the way they have, setting us up for problem after problem, or We The People take the initiative to start solving our own problems. I don't mean to imply violence, but rather the capacity for thoughtful action. Every city, every county, every state has local representation. The sooner we can energize our communities at that level to operate honestly, ethically, effectively, and debt-free, the sooner Washington will have to sit up and take a good hard look at what they've been doing. GM's trying their hardest to turn around, can the 50 states do the same? This is a Big Challenge for democracy, inaction+free money from the government, or sweat equity and economic success
and the relative autonomy inherent thereto? Some states run 'in the black', and have for years. They do that by adhering to some good solid principles and making results happen locally. I think Clooney should run for office, personally, if he can get people to listen to reason, see the facts for themselves, then he'd be great as a leader. Charlie Sheen should think of doing the same. We need smart people in office willing to challenge the status quo and the 'official story', and actively encourage public debate on the issues. How can you look at 250 school buses under water and not think Chocolate City Nagin dropped the ball. If you look at teh Hurricane evacuation plan that Nagan himself put together it says New Orleans will evacuate citizens with SCHOOL BUSES. My nephew just came back from his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq. He said the soldiers and most of teh people are extremely greatfull that we are there. I guess that doesn't sell many newspapers though.

This article was about how The Huffington Post published a blog by George Clooney that Mr. Clooney didn't write and how both sides seem to have a different version of events on how this happened.

From Mr. Clooney's perspective, it is a really big that quotes from interviews are taken to "create" a blog that he didn't write. This changes then entire meaning of each of these individual quotes, or statements, from when he gave because they are taken out of context and re-assembled in a different manner. Anybody who has any role in the public eye has to deal with PR and public appearances, this is a huge deal. This could be a CEO, The President of The United States, a news anchor, a sports star, an actor, director, or run of the mill celebrity. This is his "image" that is being published. He has every right to care about it.

As for how The Huffington Post "submitted" a sample blog for George's approval, as they claim, and thus, Mr. Clooney never really wrote a blog that THP posted as a blog: in publishing this behavior happens all the time, it's called ghost writting. Most books that are written by celebrities (sports stars, actors, directors, this list goes on...) are usually written not by the celebrity but by someone else entirely. The star jots down an outline, maybe tells their life story into a little handheld recorder, somebody else writes the entire book, but the celebrity is credited as the author on the cover and the actual author gets a thank you inside the book. This sells more books (and it makes the reading more enjoyable). This is called life.

Needless to say, all of the comments had nothing to do with actual story, but instead attacked Arianna Huffinton and George Clooney in either really childish namecalling or really hatefilled bile. And, it seems the only reason that people are attacking them are because they are " perceived liberals", it's black or white. Nobody seems to be able to discuss and debate the issues at all.

As for some of the individual comments, there may have been some communists in our government back during the cold war, but all of the democrats were not protecting them. And to be a communist does not make you a spy for the Soviet Union. After the great depression in this country, many people were really upset with things and some Americans joined the communist party here in America. Anybody has a right to belong to any political party and have any political views here in America. What happened when the cold war started, and the Soviet Union was a communist stat, people in power here in America equated communism with no belief in God, namely a Chirstian God. It was during this time that "under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegience, and anybody who at anytime had been a member of the communist party had to come forward and admit it to Congress and name names of other people who also had been a member or be held in contempt, because all of these people were "traitors" and "un-American" and "not God-fearing Christians". This destroyed peoples lives, it ruined their careers because our government stuck its nose into peoples' business. People who went to one communist meeting and had done nothing else got fired from their jobs, couldn't find work and support their families and on and on. So, this is all very serious stuff. You may disagree with the issues, but I think it is incrediblely rude to just dismiss someone with name calling and not engage them on the issues.

One more thing, most of the liberals that I know are smart, funny, engaging, sometimes cynical, and they try to understand all sides--that doesn't mean they agree with them. Most of the conservatives I know, I have met and I read about are crass, loud, obnoxious, judgemental, self-rightous, self-invloved, self-centered, and sometimes mean-spirited and down right cruel with a mean sense of humor. And the postings to this article proved me right.

Clint Eastwood? Seriously? You think he hasn't been busy? Last year, at the 2005 Oscars, his movie "Million Dollar Baby" won best picture, he won best director, there were a total of 8 wins for his picture. In 2004 "Mystic River" was nominated for best picture and best director, also Clint's movie. His next project is "Flags of Our Fathers" that he is directing for Speilberg's company. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

The Jessica Simpson thing probably has less to do with her being a conservative than it does with Bush's approval ratings being at 34%...hell, even the republicans in congress are distancing themselves from that albatross.

Mel Gibson's movie sucked. Just because a movie makes a great deal of money doesn't mean it is a great, Oscar worthy movie.... "Big Mama's House 2" comes to mind.

I think the fall in ticket sales has more to do with the $12 price tag and being forced to sit through commercials before the movie starts rather than some imagined boycott. What used to be an affordable family night out, is cheaper to do at home on your big screen tv.

Re:liberal treatment of conservatives. I was "born" a Democrat and remained a liberal Democrat for many years. I worked in a profession dominated by liberal Democrats like myself. Occasionally, a conservative Republican showed up and attempted to express an opinion about matters political. I am not proud to say that I joined the "herd of independent minds" in
becoming angry at the upstart's nerve in believing he had a right to a contrary opinion and to disagree with us -who were so clearly always correct. Social ostracism is a weapon we employed as a matter of course. I realize now that I was using emotion rather than facts to justify whatever it was I believed in. I also have come to rethink my positions and see now that I was simply wrong about the factual bases of much of what I believed. I am no longer a Democrat. The fundamental issue is simply the right of free speech. I do not necessarily agree with Mr. Clooney, nor do I necessarily agree with everyone who has the opportunity to address the public freely and frequently, however, free speech is one of our rights. If Mr. Clooney did not approve of his transcripts being selectively edited then he indeed has a right to be displeased. Thank (fill in the blank) that we live in America where we can actually have these discussions without fear of reprisal, namely, serious bodily harm, loss of freedom or loss of life.

If a public wishes to boycott his future endeavors, it is fundamental to a free market economy to do so. This a man who worked with a 7 million dollar budget very intimately - met the needs of the project within budget and gave us a product, by all external observation, on time. I ask you: Who are the people voted to local or national office? People from the business world who believe their experiences recommend them well. They will mount their campaign talking about how well they ran their businesses, how well they understand the economic needs of their community. Many will be in real estate or have a law degree. Mr. Clooney owns outright at least two houses, and currently working on development in Las Vegas to the tune of over one BILLION dollars.

Having worked on campaigns for mayors, city council, state legislators and congress persons - I can tell you that his experience, ability to articulate and argue points and "X" factor that many a politician dream of recommends him VERY well for having a public political position.

I think Cloony's participation in "goodnight and goodluck" really does show that George is, in his heart, a traitor.

He had to have done the research on what really happened during these years, and known that there really were communist plants in the government and in Hollywood. (It all was proven beyond ANY doubt when the papers were all revealed after the Soviet Union fell.)

If Cloony was being intellectually honest, the message of his film should have been "McCarthy was right but was hounded out of office by an out-of-control newsman."

I don't understand why movie consumers get so upset when a celebrity expresses their opinion, as if the consumer is REQUIRED to believe it. This all makes sense. I like and respect George Clooney. He is an eloquent guy. The kind of guy you want to stand up and make a toast, or say a few words.

I was surprised by Clooney's post simply because he is a successful screenwriter and his post read like something he'd think or agree with, but not something he'd write. It wasn't written well. It was oversimplistic. This makes perfect, perfect sense now!

So, let me get this straight... Clooney's upset that Arianna quoted him like crazy in a blog, but didn't specifically say he didn't write the blog. He agrees with everything that was said, confirms they're accurate quotes that came from him, but is upset because he didn't write the entire blog... just the 'meat', which was considered accurate.

Wouldn't his time be better served chasing after people who are MISQUOTING or MISREPRESENTING him?

Clooney gets paid to play "dress up," Ariana married a gay dude to live here, and Britney Spears is knocked up again. That's news for the day. I'm going back to bed.

From a republican point of view, it appears that:
1. George Clooney is starting to make sense.
2. GW is eyeing our next target, maybe Iran or North Korea?
3. We are spending a lot of money on government, even though much of the security stuff is necessary.
4. All of the above scares the crap out of me.

I hope George sticks to his guns. I'm a HUGE fan, and what Arianna did is absolutely wrong. You don't collect quotes from someone and then present them as a blog - that's patent misrepresentation! Of all people, George Clooney has focused on the importance of honesty in the press. With everyone posting everything on the Web, we are at a crossroads as to the reliability of news sources. Sites like Arianna's should be punished for things like this. Why would an advertiser want to associate their name with this kind of racket? And she still thinks she's right????

Please George, stick up for what is right!

Does everything have to be an us and them with our current state of affairs in this country. Doesn't anyone think for themselves anymore?
I am a Republican and Voted for George Bush but that doesn't mean that I agree with everything that the republicans say and disagree with everything the democrats say. It's amazing how much energy is spent on both sides arguing every little thing like they are the enemy. We are Americans and although we may not always agree, take a deep breath and don't let all of this stuff get you worked up. George Clooney is an American just like the rest of us. It doesn't matter whether you like him or not, he is entitled to his opinion. Thank God we can all have one.

George Clooney's "Good Night and Good Luck" movie about journalist Edward R. Murrow has
proven that "history repeats itself" over & over again. The numerous repeated blunders by the "current presidential administration" have actually been good for America They have caused many people to take an interest in politics, news about politics and start to critically think about the "real status" of the United States. There probibly hasn't been this much social "fireworks" since the Vietnam Era. The next time you step into the voting booth, don't take you responsibility so lightly my friend.

Clooney, the modern day Cary Grant? Did I actually read that?!? Compared to Cary Grant, Clooney wouldn't even be able to tote his dirty underwear! Why did Clooney win an Oscar this year? Because the field was so devoid of anyone else worthwhile. Pretty much sums of the whole year in pictures. One disaster after another!

It's funny that a guy who couldn't make it past his freshman year at drama school should be considered a serious, important person with serious, important things to say because he is good at memorizing scripts.
