Multiple Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ("Girl with a Pearl Earring," "Lost in Translation," "Match Point," "Love Song for Bobby Long") shared the stage with Lauren Bacall Monday night at Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood awards dinner.
In her speech, she acknowledged how inappropriate she felt to be up there with such a screen legend.
"Only in Hollywood does it take two and a half decades to be eligible for an icon award. And only in Hollywood can a goofball like me stand on the same stage as Lauren Bacall," said Johansson, wearing a Louis Vuitton black strapless dress.
On the trappings of cinema fame:
"Never before has a table at Osteria Mozza been so available,'' she continued. "The Chateau Marmont will selflessly accommodate myself, my dog, my cat, my goldfish, and my twin brother. Wait in line at the airport? Not anymore. And I don't have to put my lipgloss in a Ziploc."
But here''s what she had to say before the awards about Elle, the empowerment of women and her new film, "The Other Boleyn Girl."

Oscar-nominated "Babel" supporting actress Rinko Kikuchi is officially a new face of Chanel.
Her ads for Chanel's cruise collection of handbags are out in the November fashion mags.
She joins famous CC faces Nicole Kidman, Diane Kruger, Anna Mouglalis, Vanessa Paradis, and Keira Knightley.
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld shot the ads in Paris in June and was reportedly captivated by Rinko's "Manga character" look and her ability to look like a child one minute and a mysterious woman the next.
Um, that's called acting, Karl. Check out her child/woman gaze in this shot from the handbag campaign.
Rinko wore Chanel during the entire 2007 Awards season and still does. Hey, can you blame her?
Just when you thought it was safe -- with Lindsay Lohan still sort of in rehab -- there's another Lohan lurking.
Ali Lohan, Lindsay's 13-year-old sister, has already made brief cameos in all of LiLo's films, including "Life-Size" on TV and "Freaky Friday" in theaters. Although none of that shows up on IMDb.
But Ali -- or as she will no doubt be known, "ALo" -- made her official acting debut in LiLo's music video "Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)" playing a younger Lindsay. So we know she's probably familiar with Lindsay's acting-out Daddy issues.
She's reportedly in negotiations with Disney Channel programming and made her singing debut in 2006 with the Christmas album "Lohan Holiday." Wonder if they play that during Lohan family therapy sessions?
ALo's reportedly a Ford model and appeared on the cover of CosmoGirl, albiet with Lindsay. But she was all on her own in Sweet 16 Magazine's "Sweetest Stars 16 and Under" in the February/March 2007 edition.
And she's already got her big sister worried. Lindsay recently told Britain's "Top of the Pops": "My little sister Aliana's opinions are the most important to me. She says, 'I want to look like you, you're so pretty!' But she is very beautiful and so she is trouble in the making! I'm like her second mother and I am very protective of her."
ALo has even been on TMZ already! In August, the site debunked a news report (click HERE to read it) about the little Lohan sneaking out of the house to see her 16-year-old boyfriend, who then crashed his car. Just like her poor sister, people are already making up stupid stuff up about her. The report was untrue, Lindsay's publicist told TMZ.
Most telling of all, on ALo's website (click HERE) she says she "aspires to become an actress like Lindsay."
I say, why limit yourself? Why not become an actress like Charlize Theron or Cate Blanchett? Think BIGGER, girl!

Here's a lovely little gown you will never see at the Oscars. This priceless creation flounced down the Heatherette runway this week during Mercedes-Benz Spring 2008 Fashion Week at Smashbox.
The smeared lipstick, raccoon eyes, dirty, matted hair... Gosh, wonder who inspired designer Richie Rich's to design this train wreck frock? Britney Spears or Courtney Love? Actually, not all of the collection was this bad. Some of it was much worse.
I just hope that stuff smeared all over this poor model is not what it looks like....
There's apparently no stopping Ricky Martin's ongoing Booty Call.
Last week, he did his signature dance move onstage in Miami. Missed it? Click HERE! This past weekend, he did it again in Madison Square Garden.
Thankfully, there are no more Ricky Martin concerts currently skedded. By the time his next tour gets going, he may be doing this routine using a walker. In Vegas.
Where are gorgeous women modeling exquisite designer dresses screamed at by frenzied photographers?
At the Paris runway collections. And at Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood Awards honoring Scarlett Johansson, director Julie Taymor, Kate Bosworth, Diane Lane, Lauren Bacall, Jennifer Connelly and Amy Adams
It's de rigueur for still cameramen to yell out stars' names on the red carpet. But the deafening screams last night outside the Four Seasons Hotel actually rivaled photographers' hoots and hollers for top models during high fashion shows.
The noise was bad enough when Jessica Alba, Ali Larter and Kristen Bell arrived. But when Elle's cover girl Johansson showed up, the shrieks hit a crescendo -- "Scarlett, Scarlett! Over here! Look at me! Scarlett!" -- effectively drowning out interviewers' questions and stars' responses.
"This is crazy! I can't hear anything!" Taymor ("Across the Universe") said before she retreated into the ballroom. Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry") struggled to be heard, talking about her new film, "Stop Loss," but Oscar hopefuls Emile Hirsch ("Into the Wild") and Ben Foster ("3:10 to Yuma") gave up and hightailed it into the cocktail party. "It’s the worst carpet I've done in 10 years," groused one seasoned cameraman.
Oh, but who cares! The fashion show made it all worthwhile.
There's no question that Julia Roberts looked great Friday at the American Cinematheque tribute at the Beverly Hilton. After having given birth to her third child in June (and she turns 40 in a few weeks), the actress looked fanflippingtastic in a black, short-sleeved belted gown that showed off a surprisingly slender post-baby shape. She should give Britney diet tips. Seriously.
Unfortunately, Julia's attitude towards red carpet interviews hasn't mellowed with motherhood. The fact is, Julia Roberts should not walk red carpets. She hates it. And it shows.
When a young TV reporter asked Julia something along the lines of whether raising three children and having an acting career was difficult, Julia grew noticeably terse. Instead of saying something innocuous or funny, she dissed the query with,"Not at all. I prefer being home."
"Garry Marshall said that he saw something special in you when he cast you in 'Pretty Woman,' " another TV reporter blurted out, desperately hoping that flattery would elicit a usable sound bite from the actress. "What do you think that something special was?"
Julia sniffed and dismissively retorted, "I have no idea. And I hope I never do."
Ouch.
Actually, what Garry - and most of the other stars who walked and talked on the tribute carpet - said about Julia is that she's open, emotionally available, honest and real. To see Julia's onstage act, which is way more personable than her red carpet talk-to-press act, watch AMC on Dec. 5th.
Photo Credits: There's that adorable, real, honest and infectious JR chortle backstage at the Cinematheque event Friday night. Wow, it's enough to make you fall in love with her all over again. Sadly, you'll never see or hear this laugh on a red carpet. On another note, what on earth is that on the roof of her mouth? Gum? Or (shudder) more teeth? Or is a device that emits that trademark shrieking laughter when she presses it with her tongue? Photo Credits: WireImage
Randolph Duke has probably dressed more actresses for awards than any American designer and quite a few A-list European ones.
His clients include Jennifer Aniston, Kim Basinger, Felicity Huffman, Angelina Jolie, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Mira Sorvino, Debra Messing, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Swank, even Britney Spears, back when she wasn't acting nuts and flashing her lack of panties.
And the list goes on...
So it was a little surprising that only Kelly ("Nip/Tuck") Carlson attended Randy's Sunday night runway return (and his first-ever L.A. runway show) after a seven-year absence.
His new collection -- shown at the Mercedes-Benz Spring 08 Fashion Week at Smashbox -- was titled “The Living Earth” and reportedly was inspired by “the natural beauty of California.” Think ferns, palmettos, assorted cactuses and lotus-blossom design elements for sportswear and evening looks.
Duke also showed some scandalously sheer gowns that will need a lot of lining to wear during the 2008 awards season. Occasional actress Bai Ling, who modeled in (!) a show yesterday, will no doubt wear Duke's sheer stuff with aplomb. But there aren't enough pasties in the world for most actresses to risk embarrassment.
That said, here are some of Duke's elegant, more carpet-appropriate offerings:
There is no greater glory for a fashion journalist than to be banned from attending a designer's show.
Being banned means that you've dared to write/speak the truth about the fashion industry. They really don't like that AT ALL.
That's why it's such great PR for author Dana Thomas to have been banned from the recent Vuitton show in Paris because of her new book, "Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster." ClickHERE!to read all about it!
But not to worry. All will be forgotten soon. Apparently, Vuitton banned her only from this season's show -- not, like, forever. After all, there is no such thing as forever in fashion.

No, this is not the new Stone Face Celebrities exhibit at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Nor is it the new Inflatable Sex Dolls department at the Hustler boutique.
This is actually two real live women and self-created cultural icons (and self-imposed non-smilers) - Strip Tease Queen Dita von Teese and Paparazzi Tease Queen Victoria Beckham posing at a Chanel fashion show in Paris.
Creepy, right? All that separates them is the cultivated pallor versus the air-brushed tan preference.
